CSA FAQ’s

This could be you! Eating delicious food right from the field!

What is a CSA?

Great question! CSA stands for community supported agriculture. It is a partnership between consumers and farmers where consumers pay up front for a “subscription” or a “share” in the farm. Weekly, throughout the season, customers then receive produce from the farmer based on what is available. Its a great way to become a part of a community and share in the risks and benefits of local food production!

What produce is available?

You will see lots of different vegetables throughout the season! Expect to start out the spring with an abundance of greens (lettuce, arugula, salad mix, kale, collards, etc..), peas, beets, broccoli, radishes, cabbage, and the like. Once we get into the heat of summer that’s what we call heavy vegetable season- all the tomatoes, cucumber, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, new potatoes, and sweet corn! As fall comes around we welcome back the greens along with other fall roots (carrots, beets, radishes) and fall treats like sweet potatoes, winter squash, and brussels sprouts. You can expect a variety of different herbs and small flower bouquets throughout the year!

Where can I get a CSA?

Our current CSA pickup is at Hidden Waters Farm Store in Pikesville, MD. A Frederick County CSA pickup location is TBD.

How do I sign up and pay?

Send an email to redplatefarm@gmail.com to sign up or ask any other questions! Checks are preferred payment, but Venmo can also be used. Cash and card will be accepted at the farm stand.

What if I can’t make it to a pick-up?

We hope to see you the majority of weeks throughout the season! However, if you can’t make it one week (i.e. on vacation) that’s okay! The great thing about the debit system is you are not deducted for weeks you miss, you will just have a little extra to spend another week. If you occasionally need to pick up at another time, get in touch with Erin and we can hopefully work something out.
